About The Good Way Library

The Good Way Library exists to help Christians read the Bible with understanding and live in steady obedience to the Lord. We’re building chapter-by-chapter commentary and a curated library of resources so readers, families, small groups, and teachers can learn the Scriptures and the faith handed down through the church.

WHY THIS STARTED

Why The Good Way Library began

This project exists to serve ordinary Christians with trustworthy commentary and a growing library of Christian resources, built to be usable, shareable, and charitable across the wider church. Like many believers, we’ve felt concerned about the state of the Western church. We believe what we are seeing today is the fulfillment of Hosea 4:6 – Our people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. We long to see renewed faith, deeper discipleship, and lasting spiritual growth. We believe that kind of renewal first begins with a return to Scripture. We want to help Christians be steady and active in their faith through continual learning. Future Good Way Projects are coming thereafter, but we must first begin with training others to develop a love of the Word.

What about the name? “Good Way” comes from Jeremiah’s call to God’s people to choose a path and walk it: “ask for the old paths, ‘Where is the good way?’ and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls” (Jeremiah 6:16). In that chapter, Jeremiah warns that spiritual drift leads to real danger. He calls God’s people to return to steady obedience instead of waiting for a crisis to take faith seriously. The name reflects the purpose of this library: to help Christians become steady and active in their faith: learning Scripture, receiving the wisdom handed down, and walking in the good way day by day.

Editorial note. At points in our workflow, The Good Way Library uses AI-assisted tools to help compare a wide range of thought, surface major interpretive options, and reduce the narrowing effect that can come from a single authorial or denominational lens, as often happens with many free online commentaries. Our published commentary is then reviewed, revised, and approved by human editors, who remain responsible for the wording, theological judgment, and final shape of each page in coordination with the Holy Spirit in us. We approach that work prayerfully, seeking to handle Scripture with clarity, charity, and honesty in service of the wider church.

Reasons for this commentary 1

Faithful commentary without hidden agendas

Many free resources lean heavily into denominational talking points or viewpoints of the author(s). This library aims to keep the focus on the passage itself: Explaining what the text says, what it means, and where major interpretive options exist in an open, transparent way.

We want to be open to how many different Christians interpret Scripture, and not claim ours is the only option.

Reasons for this commentary 2

Primacy of Scripture: A Scripture text meant to be shared freely

We believe Scripture should be freely accessible, which is why we build around the World English Bible Updated (WEBU), a text that can be shared without restriction. We want a library that remains free to share and easy to reuse for readers, families, and churches.

We stand opposed to copyrighting God’s Word, and all those who seek to put barricades around it. The majority of modern online commentaries currently use copyrighted text, which limits their distribution potential and supports this horrible practice.

Reasons for this commentary 3

Common ground, honest differences, real unity

The goal is to highlight the core of historic Christian faith and to describe differences among denominations fairly, so readers can understand other traditions even while holding their own convictions.

Scripture calls believers to unity, and understanding is part of that pursuit. Too much focus is placed on finding areas of disagreement, rather than learning in humility why those disagreements exist in the first place. We must learn from others and Christians from our collective past. This project seeks to do just that.
